Let's face it... im not doing so great at this blogging thing. Time has been passing, and I have not been blogging. However coming home from Japan has inspired me to do a post about what Rochelle and I experienced and loved.
Let me first say that I fell in love with Japan instantly. It's somewhere I can definitely see myself living, studying, and/or working in the future. Together we ventured through the cold and grey surrounding of Kyoto and Tokyo. It was beautiful, and yet depressing. The Bamboo forest in Saga Arashiyama was by far my favourite place that we visited. It is how I expected Kyoto to be; traditional, quaint with beautiful surroundings and buildings. The forest was breathtaking. I imagined how wonderful it would be to get lost amongst all the bamboo.

Kyoto was beautiful and it didn't feel rushed there. Rochelle and I spent the day riding our bicycles around the area, visiting Gion for dinner and drinks, and venturing to the shopping district. I think one of the things I'll miss most is how easy it is to ride your bike everywhere. The footpaths are huge, and helmets are not necessary. Ear Muffs were a must too, or else your ears would get so cold, they would burn!

Tokyo was equally as amazing as Kyoto, though I can't compare the two because they are both so different.
We were only in Japan for 2 and a half weeks. But that fortnight felt like at least a month. We managed to fill everyday with sight seeing and shopping, and finished in the evening with a few drinks of Ume-Shu. Only our favourite Japanese drink of all time. I was amazed that I got to see and do everything that I set out to do. Especially visiting the Cat Cafe and the Studio Ghibli museum (best place in the entire planet). Visiting Ghibli made so happy. I was like an excited child running around the museum smiling and giggling. It's definitely a must see.
Japanese people amazed me as well. I always expected them to be really kind and helpful... but it's one thing to expect, and it's an entirely different thing to experience. Shop keepers, the owners of the hostels we stayed at, strangers on the street, everyone was so kind and wanted to help. The language barrier wasn't so difficult either because they all learnt English in high school. This made things a hell of a lot easier for travelling and finding places.
New Years eve was a memorable day and night too. We spent the day shopping in Shibuya. We visited Opening Cerememony again after being there the previous day (we spent 5 hours the first time), and then went to shibuya 109 and continued our shopping. The crowds were crazy, and the sales were fantastic! We then visited Harajuku, but unfortunately did not get to see any Japanese girls dressed up... Oh well. That night we re-ventured to Shibuya and went to Womb, which is the number 1 club in Shibuya or something. Apparently the number 1 club in Tokyo is Ageha, so that's definitely on my list if I ever return to Japan. Anyway Womb was an experience in itself. The dancefloor was like a mosh pit, everyone smoking inside, European Dj's all night, and lots of Japanese dude's feeling you up. If you tried to push them away, they'd pull your hair!
Last of all I'd just like to mention the hostel we stayed at in Iriya, which is a stop away from Ueno! We stayed at Toco, which is a hostel situated on a heritage sight. This place was amazing accommodation. We got to experience a bit of the traditional side of Japan. When entering the buildings, shoes had to be off, and all the sliding doors were wooden frames with paper. Our room we stayed in was the best though. We had the best view, and in the morning the sun would shine through and you'd feel so at peace just sitting in bed taking it all in. We rarely left the hostel before 12 because we'd spend an hour or two just enjoying the space around us and preparing for the day ahead of us.
